JAIPUR: Governor of Meghalaya Satya Pal Malik launched a scathing attack on the central government, alleging that leaders in Delhi send condolence messages even when a dog dies, but are unconcerned about the "death of 600 farmers" protesting against farm laws.
On Sunday, he spoke at the Teja Foundation's Birla Auditorium in Jaipur, where he said: "Such a massive movement has never occurred before. So far, 600 people have died as a result of the farmers' movement. When an animal dies, the Delhi government sends a condolence message. Our farmers were slaughtered in large numbers, but there was no message from Delhi." "Leaders in Delhi sent condolence messages for the five-seven people who died in a fire in a Maharashtra hospital," Malik said in a Jaipur programme.
According to the Governor, the movement is having an impact on the country's armed forces, where farmers' sons are employed. He also claimed that no minister ever pays a visit to the villages of western Uttar Pradesh, even when there is sadness or suffering. "What good are leaders ruling in Delhi?" he remarked.
