SHILLONG: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be addressing his first election rally in poll-bound Meghalaya on Wednesday, February 22.

The former Congress president's rally will take place at Shillong's Malki Ground. After the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi will make his first public appearance afterwards.

It's important to note that the Wayanad MP was absent from the party's campaign in Tripura, where voting took place on February 16.

The top leaders of the Congress have not yet been seen campaigning in the three northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya, and Nagaland, with the exception of party president Mallikarjun Kharge, who spoke briefly on Tuesday at an election rally in Nagaland.

However, Kharge was also missing from the campaigning in Tripura. The Bharatiya Janata Party and its supporters have been looting the state, he said in a speech to a crowd in Chumoukedima, Nagaland, on Tuesday,  said Congress president Kharge.

"The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the BJP have robbed Nagaland for the past 20 years. It is past time for the people to receive justice and a government that serves them "said Kharge. "The politics of the BJP aim to obliterate the Nagas' distinctive and indigenous culture. The politics of divisiveness and animosity, as well as this assault on Nagaland culture, must be opposed by the people of Nagaland "said Kharge.

On February 27, voting will take place in Meghalaya and Nagaland, and the results will be tallied on March 2.
