Guwahati: Meghalaya High Court Judge Justice Sudip Ranjan Sen has courted a massive controversy by delivering a mournful judgment. He said in his verdict that the fact is after partition, founders did not announce India a Hindu nation. The judge also appealed to the Prime Minister Modi and other parliamentarians to take steps to prevent India from turning into an Islamic nation.

Explaining the National Register of Citizens (NRC) updating process in Assam as “defective as many foreigners become Indians and original Indians are left out which is very sad,” Justice Sen stated while dismissed a plea that “nobody should try to make India… another Islamic country, otherwise it will be a doomsday for India and the world”.

He also  noted that Pakistan declared themselves as an Islamic nation and India since was divided on the basis of religion should have also been affirmed as a Hindu country but it remained as a secular nation.

He further said that he is sure that only this Government under Shri Narendra Modiji will realize the gravity, and will do the “needful” and “Chief Minister Mamataji will support the national interest in all respect”.

Responding to the comments, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, meanwhile, tweeted that he was "stunned by almost every aspect of this High Court judgement", Here is his statement-

"Most disturbing...These people belong to the same institution which is supposed to handle cases of riots and fake encounters. The message is clear: Justice only exists for one group, the rest should not even bother trying to be seen as equal humans," Mevani tweeted.
