On Friday, an underground pit in Meghalaya's South West Khasi Hills area uncovered a large cache of rifles and ammunition.

According to a BSF spokesperson, a team of BSF personnel and Meghalaya police launched a combined operation in the dense jungle beside the Lakma Nallah, which runs from India to Bangladesh, and retrieved the hidden arms and ammunition.

The arms cache was about a kilometre inside India, 1.5 kilometres from the BSF Borsora outpost, which was manned by men from the border force's 193 Battalion. US-made revolvers, magazines, and 410 live rounds were among the arms and ammunition retrieved from the pit, which were wrapped in a yellow-colored plastic bag.

The surrounding area was also thoroughly inspected with a metal detector, but nothing further was discovered, according to the BSF officer. The BSF, which monitors the 443-kilometer Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya, also stated that the hidden weaponry and ammunition were most likely meant for militants' use. The owner of the cache of guns, according to the BSF officer, has yet to be identified.
