GUWAHATI: People stuck in Imphal, the capital of the violent Manipur, have been brought back by special flights organised by the National People's Party-led government of Meghalaya.

60 students from the Agriculture University and Food Technology Institute in Manipur and 25 members of the Lajong football club from Shillong are among the stranded residents of Meghalaya.

The Director-General of the Assam Rifles headquartered in Meghalaya, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Chief Minister's Office, the Ministry of Home Affairs, private airlines, and the Prime Minister's Office collaborated to schedule the special flights, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office.

As per statement, a three-person team headed by Meghalaya's Health Minister Ampareen M. Lyngdoh has arrived in Imphal to monitor the evacuation procedure.

By the afternoon of May 5, more than 25 people had left for Meghalaya via Guwahati, the capital of Assam. More than 60 kids would also be returned via special buses via Nagaland and Assam, according to officials in Meghalaya.

We are bringing back our trapped people who wish to return home using normal aircraft and specially authorised chartered flights. Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, claimed that the Lajong football team had already been taken to the airport. "We are making every effort to ensure the safe and prompt return of all our citizens," he added.

"I want to ask the parents and students from Meghalaya studying in Manipur to kindly be calm and not panic. To protect the safety of our citizens, we are collaborating closely with the security services, the Union, and State governments, he said.

Helplines: The Meghalayan government has also set up a helpline, 1800-345-3644, for those who might need additional support. Students studying agriculture and food technology are urged to contact Remdor Dkhar, the nodal officer, at 98631-14387, while those studying medicine are instructed to contact Dr. Paul Chyne at 98630-89972.

Neiphiu Rio, the Chief Minister of Nagaland, also offered a few phone numbers for residents of his State who were trapped in neighbouring Manipur.
