The royal family shared the special news in an official statement which reads "we are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days."

The boy was born at 5:26 a.m. weighing 7 pounds, 3 ounces, the palace said. "It's been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined," Harry later told reporters. Harry said the couple hasn't yet decided on a name for their son, as NPR's Frank Langfitt reports. The family will live at Frogmore, which is near Windsor Castle — the queen's weekend home outside London and the site of the couple's wedding.

A number of high-profile people, including Michelle Obama, have extended their congratulations publicly to the happy family.

With the baby’s arrival, the royal family’s line of succession extends a jot further. Currently, Queen Elizabeth is the monarch (to state the obvious), followed by Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, the elusive Prince Louis, and new father Prince Harry. The unnamed baby now takes the position of seventh in line for the throne, knocking Prince Andrew down a spot.
