SRINAGAR: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar city placed former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti under house arrest on Tuesday, preventing her from travelling to the Anantnag area.

Mufti claimed she planned to pay a visit to the family of a Kashmiri Pandit in the Shopian district who was killed by militants in his native village on April 6.

Mehbooba Mufti used to Twitter to express her displeasure with the decision to place her under house arrest "Today, I was placed under house arrest because I intended to pay a visit to the family of the Kashmiri pandit who was murdered in Shopian.

The Indian government deliberately broadcasts false propaganda about Kashmiri mainstream and muslims as perpetrators of the pandit exodus because it does not want this false divisive narrative to be revealed." Security concerns, according to authorities, stopped the former chief minister from travelling.
