Bengaluru: As the Congress' 'padayatra' (foot march) demanding the completion of the Mekedatu project across the Cauvery River arrived in Bengaluru on Tuesday, party state president D K Shivakumar apologized to the city's residents, saying the march would cause traffic jams in some areas until March 3.

He further accused the ruling BJP of attempting to sabotage the padayatra by causing havoc and filing lawsuits against Congress leaders for "political revenge," saying his party will not be intimidated by such threats.

"I'd like to apologize to the Bengaluru residents, since there will be traffic congestion in some areas of the city for the next three days. There may be some traffic congestion for three days, but it will solve your water problems for the next 50 years. Our fight is for the people of Bengaluru and the state of Karnataka. As a result, please join us in marching "Shivakumar expressed his thoughts.

He told reporters here that apartment associations, industry owners, industrialists, and ordinary people had all joined the campaign for water, cutting across party lines.

On today's third day, the padayatra will go 15.8 kilometers from near Kengeri to Jayadeva Junction in the city. This is the second leg of the march, which came to an abrupt stop at Ramanagara on January 13, when the COVID-19's third wave peaked.
