Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled the company’s latest virtual and mixed reality headset, the Quest 3, on June 1st, through his Instagram account.
The new Meta Quest 3 headset is 40% thinner, and it is powered by a Snapdragon CPU that will provide twice as much GPU processing power, as per the promotional video on Instagram. Some of the touted improvements include improved visuals, a better screen resolution, full-color passthrough, and natural depth perception.
Meta said in its press release on June 1, "Now you can play a virtual board game on your kitchen table with Demeo, decorate your living room with virtual art courtesy of Painting Virtual Reality, or dive into a fully immersive world to do things that are simply not possible otherwise,”
Dubbed the Quest 3 it's “mass-market offering,” Meta said the device will ship this fall. The 128GB variant of the headset will start at USD499.99. A variant with an additional storage option is also set to be launched. Buyers of Quest 3 will have access to both the hundreds of VR titles in the Quest 2 catalogue as well as those being created for Quest 3.
To minimise space and provide a more natural feel, Meta claimed to have revamped the Touch Plus controllers for the Quest 3. It also got rid of the outer tracking rings.
Following the revelation of the Quest 3, Meta also revealed that the previously released Quest 2 128GB edition will be sold for a reduced price of USD 299.99.
