New Delhi: Public sector company MMTC has improved the tender and removed Pakistan from the list. Earlier, it had described Pakistan as one of the nations from which MMTC wants to import onions. It is being told that the company has taken this step after the tone of protest. Actually, the company had made an order while improving its tender to import 2,000 tonnes of onions.

Last week, MMTC had announced a tender to import onions from Pakistan, Egypt, China, Afghanistan and other countries. After this, voices of protest from political bodies and peasants began to intensify. MMTC then amended its tender stating that bidding companies could import onions from any other nation except Pakistan.

Let us tell you that the tension between India and Pakistan has been at the peak since Article 370 of the Constitution giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Since then Pakistan has suspended its trade relations with India. Now MMTC has said that the tender bid for onion import will have to be submitted before September 24. This bid will be valid until October 10.
