MET department issues alert over Cyclone Tauktae, may wreak havoc on Gujarat coast

Ahmedabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for the first cyclonic storm this year. According to information received from Disaster Management and Meteorological Department, cyclone Tauktae is expected to hit coastal areas of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa in the next three to four days

In view of the storm alert, the Coast Guard has asked fishermen not to go ashore. The Coast Guard has alerted fishermen through ships and helicopters. According to the Met department, the cyclonic storm Tauktae could wreak havoc in Gujarat from May 17 to 18. It is likely to come from the West Coast side. Also, alerts have been sounded on the beaches of Saurashtra and Kutch due to the cyclone. Fishermen are being asked to return to shore as soon as possible if they are at sea.

It also says to keep a distance from the sea for a while.  Although the storm will hit Karachi in Pakistan, it can also wreak havoc on the coast of Gujarat. The Met department has further informed that it is expected to move north and northwest wards in the Lakshadweep region around May 14.
