LOS ANGELES: Miley Cyrus is breaking records with her break-up anthem “Flowers.” On January 20, the pop superstar claimed the record for the most-streamed song in a single week in Spotify history.

The service announced on January 20 morning that, as of January 19, 'Flowers' had become the most-streamed song in a seven-day period in Spotify history, reports 'Variety'.

The latest update for Cyrus' 'Flowers' streams on the site showed that it had racked up 101,838,799 stream since coming out late in the day on January 12. On January 19, it reached the 100 million point faster than any other song ever has to date on Spotify.

In a statement to Variety, Jana Coffey, Spotify's artist & label partnerships director, stated, "It's been fantastic witnessing 'Flowers' shatter the record for most listens in a single week."

"After just one day, the song was off to an incredible start, and it has only gotten better since then.

Every day since the release has been bigger than the one before, as opposed to tremendous streams on day one that decline throughout the week. With the release of her album "Endless Summer Vacation" in a few months, Miley is back and this is only the beginning." Who held the prior world record for the most Spotify streams in a week? BTS's "Butter," which came very close to reaching the 100 million-download threshold in its first seven days. It broke the previous record with 99.37 million Spotify streams in the first seven days, reaching the 100 million stream milestone on the eighth day.

The overwhelming success of "Flowers" on Spotify is incredibly encouraging and increases the likelihood that the song will top the Billboard Hot 100 when the top 10 are revealed on Monday.
