The Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), a blacklisted militant group in Meghalaya, is apparently actively using social media platforms to recruit youths through this. According to a report citing Meghalaya home department officials, the HNLC is luring youngsters into the  group using social media platforms.

The Meghalaya police recently nabbed a 'underage' HNLC cadre for his suspected connection in the January 31 bomb attack in Shillong's Police Bazaar area. So far, authorities have detained four people, all under the age of 20, in connection with the Shillong bomb attack.

"The apprehended suspects provided raw materials for the IED that exploded in Shillong on Sunday," Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma stated. On January 31, an IED exploded near a commercial enterprise called Delhi Misthan Bhandar in Shillong city. There were no casualties or injuries reported after the bombing.
