The bottle-fed infants swallow millions of micro-plastics in a day, says a research. The trinity college in Dublin has conducted study on the infants. The baby formula prepared on the polypropylene bottles exposes infants to micro-plastic particles. The reason behind is the high temperature required to sterilize the plastic bottles and then preparing milk. More than one million microplastics an infant is consuming everyday.

The polypropylene one of the commonly used plastic has been used for food preparation and as a storage items such as lunch boxes, Kettles, etc.., 82% of the feeding bottle market is occupied by the poly-propylene. The sterilisation has to be taken place at a high-temperature. The high temp causes the botles to shed millions of microplastics and trillions of nanoplastics. When infants place the bottle in their mouth, they ended up swallowing the plastics.

Here are few guidelines for usage of the bottles. Sterilise the bottle by boiling it in a non-plastic container, use room temperature sterilised water, wash the bottle atleast thrre times, prepare formula milk in a non-plastic containerusing taleast 70 degree water and transfer the prepared formula into a high-quality plastic infant feeding bottle. Don't reheat the prepared formula milk, don't shake the formula in the bottle vigorously, don't use ultrasonic cleaners on the baby bottles.
