Bamang Felix, the Minister for Home, Information, and Public Relations in Arunachal Pradesh, has appealed to the leadership of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU) to assist the state government in formulating a strategy to manage the rapid growth of digital and social media.

Addressing the IJU National Executive Meeting here recently Felix said, "In the era of social media, people are confused to make out who are real journalists and who are self-proclaimed journalists. I appeal to the IJU leadership to discuss and work out a policy and provide suggestions to the department to bring a mechanism to regulate it. I will ensure that required laws will be enacted, if the IJU can come up with a policy," Felix said.

The Home Minister went on to say that the current State Government has always been media-friendly, citing the Pema Khandu-led administration's major reforms for the benefit of the press community. IJU president Geetartha Pathak said in his address, " Journalism per se is not a profession, as profession provides adequate economic support to professionals, which is not the case with journalism.''
