NEW DELHI: Nityanand Rai, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, announced on Thursday that he had tested positive for Covid-19. The Minister added in a Hindi tweet, which reads: My Covid test has come positive. I have completely isolated myself. Those who have come in contact with me are solicited to take the necessary steps with caution."

Rai attended an event at the Shaurya Officer's Institute of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) here on Wednesday.

In addition to Rai, Bharati Pawar, the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, tested positive for the virus on Thursday. Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister, and Manoj Tiwari, a BJP MP from Northeast Delhi, both announced on Tuesday that they had been infected.

In the midst of the third wave of the pandemic, Delhi recorded 10,665 Covid cases on Wednesday, up 94.58 percent from Tuesday. On Thursday, the city of Delhi is expected to disclose 14,000 Covid-19 cases, according to Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain.

Meanwhile, eight Covid deaths have been reported in the recent 24 hours, the most since June 26, 2021, when there were just nine deaths. With this, the total number of those killed has risen to 25,121. The number of active cases in Delhi has also increased to 1.58 percent.
