New Delhi: The Central government has taken a tough stand on digital media publishers, including news websites, OTT platforms. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has given digital media publishers another 15 days to submit all the information under the new guidelines. Meanwhile, several digital media publishers have been asked for answers via email.

On February 25, 2021, the Government of India framed new rules to regulate social media, digital news media and OTT platforms. Under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, details were sought from digital media publishers in three months. Three months have passed since the new guidelines of these new rules were issued, but many digital media publishers have not yet communicated their information to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Now the Ministry has given 15 days time. Information is being sought by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting by sending emails to several media institutions.

State that the digital news platform was not made a rule to register, but they had to report all their information to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. At the same time, the government has asked digital news media publishers to create self-regulation bodies like the Press Council.
