The Ministry of Railways and the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to modernise telecommunication for public safety and security services in Indian Railways. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed to facilitate coordination and resource sharing, as well as to provide and implement C-telecom DOT's solutions and services across the railway network.

Railway telecommunications will be modernised using LTE-R world standards, 5G use cases in line with Make in India policies, Internet of Things (IOT), machine to machine applications, unified network management system, OFC monitoring, network management systems, video conference software, chatting application, routers, switches, and other technologies.

The collaboration between Railways and C-DOT will aid in the provision of locally produced and cheap telecom equipment and services. The contract, according to the government, will cut total cost of ownership, enhance the Make in India drive, and bridge the digital gap.

Executive Director of C-DOT Rajkumar Upadhyay and Additional Member/Telecom/Railway Board Aruna Singh, as well as other top executives from both organisations, were present at the MoU signing ceremony.
