HYDERABAD: In a shocking incident,  a minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by five youths after giving her sedatives at a birthday party in Hyderabad.

The incident took place in the old city of Hyderabad on February 4, but came to light on Wednesday when the victim lodged a complaint with the police. The police also detained a girl and her boyfriend for abetting the offence.

On the evening of February 4, the 16-year-old girl had visited a pharmacy in the Chatrinaka neighborhood. She was persuaded to go to a friend's house in Bhoiguda for a birthday celebration by another girl from the neighborhood.

When they got to the house, the girl who had brought the victim entered a room with her boyfriend and five other young people who were already there began acting inappropriately towards her. The victim reported to the police that she was made to eat a sedative-laced beverage under duress. The accused then raped her alternately.

Police said, the accused had kept the music loud to ensure that neighbours would not hear any noise in case the girl screamed.

The victim told her mother about the incident when she got home at 3 a.m. Later, they complained to the Chatrinaka police department.

Police took down her statement and had her get checked out. Police detained five suspects for rape, who were between the ages of 18 and 21, in response to her complaint. For aiding the crime, the 16-year-old girl and her boyfriend were also detained.

The 5 men were sent to judicial custody while the girl was sent to a juvenile home.

Police registered a case under various sections of the IPC, POCSO Act and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

4 of the accused, including the girl, are also Dalits while 3 others are from backward classes.

The victim, a washout from school, lived with her mother, a labourer who left her husband and relocated to Chatrinaka a few years ago with another worker.
