On Saturday evening, a shocking incident came to the light from Pollachi, where a 20-year-old girl was found dead on the side of the road near Gomangalam town with her neck slashed. The Coimbatore police are yet to track down the accused. The deceased has been identified as Vidya. According to the police, Vidya*, a second-year undergraduate student in a college in Coimbatore had boarded a bus to her hometown on Friday afternoon. She had called and informed her mother about the journey while on the bus.

However, she did not reach home on Friday and her worried parents lodged a missing complaint with the police station in Coimbatore city on Saturday morning. On Saturday evening, Gomangalam police received information that a young woman’s body has been found on the side of the road near Poosaripatty village with her neck slashed.

The police rushed to the spot and conducted an investigation. One of the villagers identified the body as that of Vidya, following which her parents were informed and the body was sent to the hospital for an autopsy. An FIR has been registered at Gomangalam police station under section 302 (murder) of the IPC. A police officer from the station said that the body is yet to be handed over to the family of the woman and that the police is investigating the case. Coimbatore SP Sujith Kumar formed four special teams to nab the culprits behind the murder and the police are checking the CCTV footage near her college to find any leads to the murder.
