LUCKNOW: Under the 4th phase of Mission Shakti, UP's  Yogi Adityanath government will impart self-defence training in the upper primary and composite schools.

This is being done to ensure the security, well-being, and physical and mental independence of girls.

According to a government official, there has been a considerable decrease in crimes against women in the state over the past five and a half years as a result of the "zero tolerance" approach against crime and criminals.

"To ensure their proper security, the girl students will be trained under the 'Rani Laxmi Bai' self-defence training programme," the spokesman said.

Director general, school education, Vijay Kiran Anand has issued comprehensive guidelines for successfully conducting the self-defense programme.

For the girls' education, a plan of action has been made. Beginning in December 2022, this training will be required of all participants and continue through February 2023.
All girls enrolled in the school will receive instruction in health and physical education as well as sports throughout the designated time period from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV) sports teachers.

The school's headmaster will be in charge of overseeing the training. In addition, a school instructor who will be present constantly throughout the girls' training will also be involved in the programme.

The children will participate in a simulated drill to teach them about safety precautions, legislation, and helpline numbers during the warm-up activities in the first week of the programme.

For ready reference, a booklet developed by the Women & Child Protection Organisation Headquarters, 1090 Lucknow, based on significant laws regarding crimes against women and children, will also be read and talked out in detail with the children.

746 KGBVs in upper primary schools and composite schools currently employ 10,158 health and physical education instructors and 10,904 instructors and teachers in total.
