Mizoram opposition Congress has slammed the Mizo National Front (MNF) government over non-release of the salaries of employees. The party attacked chief minister Zoramthanga for allegedly putting thousands of employees in trouble by failing to pay their salaries. MNF asked chief minister Zoramthanga to pay salaries to over 4,000 employees before Christmas.
Congress spokesperson and the party media department chairman Lallianchhunga said that the chief minister Zoramthanga government failed to pay salaries and pensions to thousands for 5 to 8 months owing to which they faced a certain financial shortage ahead of Christmas. Lallianchhunga said that more than 4,000 employees under Samagra Mission, who worked as teachers in high school, middle school, primary school and as administrative or non-teaching staff, have not been paid since August.
While high school teachers are paid Rs 27,000 per month, teachers working in middle and primary school receive a monthly salary of Rs 25,000 under the mission. He said that about 69 assistant professors working under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) programme have not been paid since May.
