The Mizoram government has released guidelines for overseas travellers, based on the suggestions of a State Level Expert Team on COVID-19 Management, an official said on Tuesday. According to new recommendations published by the state administration in the wake of the finding of the Omicron strain of COVID-19 in some states, international travellers entering Mizoram will be required to undertake an obligatory Rapid Antigen Test.

Anyone entering Mizoram with international travel history within the previous 14 days prior to the date of arrival at the entry point would be subjected to mandatory Rapid Antigen Test screening, according to instructions announced on Monday. In addition, regardless of negative RT-PCR test results prior to entrance or vaccination status, samples for RT-PCR or TrueNat tests will be taken from such travellers.

Foreign travellers who test positive for COVID-19 on arrival or during isolation will be isolated or treated at facilities for international travellers, and their swab samples will be forwarded for genomic testing, according to the guidelines.

The instructions stated that all community contacts of those travellers who tested positive (during the home quarantine period) would be quarantined for 14 days and tested according to the current testing technique. If international travellers tested negative for COVID-19 symptoms after being screened with the Rapid Antigen Test, they must be quarantined for seven days at designated quarantined facilities or at home, with prior approval from the Deputy Commissioner within whose jurisdiction they are to be quarantined.
