Laljirliyana, 71, is the power minister in the Mizoram government. The picture shows the hospital wearing gowns and cleaning the hospital ward with a mop in hand. The hospital is said to be named Zoram Medical College. The minister is still undergoing treatment by staying in the hospital due to illness. According to media reports, after the photo went viral, the minister said his aim was not to embarrass the hospital staff. Laljirliana told local media that he had called the sweeper to clean the ward. Now that the worker did not respond to him, he decided to clean the floor himself.

He has said that, 'Sweeping, wiping or doing housework is not new to me. I used to do this at home or even where it was needed'. He has made it clear that being a minister, he cannot put himself above anyone else. 'Wiping the floor was not intended to embarrass the nurse or the doctor, but I wanted to set an example and teach people,' he said.
