Mizoram, Northeast best performing state in COVID-19 testing: Official

Aizawl: Mizoram has become the "best performing state in the Northeast" in terms of testing samples for novel coronavirus. State's official spokesperson on COVID-19 Dr Pachua Lalmalasawama claimed that the main reason behind the high detection rate of COVID-19 positive cases in the state was the good performance in sample tests. More than 9 lakh samples have been tested here, which is more than 82 percent of its population. We have tested 9,05,112 samples for COVID-19 till September, which is 82.96 per cent of the 10.9 lakh population."

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state is 65,696. According to State Immunization Officer Dr Laljavmi, more than 6.60 lakh people have been vaccinated till Tuesday. While 4,476 COVID-19 cases were detected in the state during the first wave, at least 61,220 cases were detected from April to September 7 this year, the official said. 1,655 cases were registered in April, 6,268 in May and 8,093 in June, 18,433 in July and 21,074 in August this year.

Mizoram on Tuesday reported its highest single-day spike as 1,468 new COVID-19 cases were reported, taking the total tally to 65,696. Two more deaths were reported on Tuesday, taking the death toll to 227, according to a statement by the state's information and public relations department. The infection rate in a day stood at 11.92 per cent on Tuesday as fresh cases were reported from 12,315 samples. The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is 83 percent and the mortality rate is 0.34 percent.
