Mizoram registered its first COVID-19 death on October 28, 2020

Mizoram, one of the seven sisters states of North-east India has registered its first COVID-19 death yesterday, October 27, 2020. The first mortality of COVID-19 was a 62-year-old man in Mizoram. Mizoram was the only State in India where no fatalities were reported though India's tally touched 80,00,000 cases and 1,20,010 people succumbed to the virus from January 30, when the first case was reported in the country till today.

Mizoram's Directorate of Information and Public Relations tweeted, "The first COVID-19 related mortality in Mizoram comes as a huge shock to the entire state". The statement said the 62 year old patient was with existing co-morbidities and for more than 10 days he was undertaking treatment at ZMC, Zoram Medical College. He was suffering from heart ailment. Last week he was admitted to the hospital after he was tested positive for COVID-19. The count till yesterday morning, 2,607 positive cases, 2,233 patients have recovered and 374 active cases. Of the total cases, including 563 women, 1,747 people were from Aizawl district.

With a surge in COVID-19 cases, a week long complete lockdown was enforced in the Aizawl Municipal Council area from Tuesday till November 3 to curb the disease spread in the State capital. A Mizoram Health official said that new COVID cases with untraceable contacts have been reported in the past few days, forcing the government to go for lockdown.
