An official stated on Saturday that the Mizoram excise and drugs department and the Border Security Force (BSF) confiscated around 12 kilos of Methamphetamine tablets worth about Rs 2 crores near the Assam border on Friday. According to the official, two people have been detained in connection with the seizure.

On Friday evening, excise and narcotics department officials and BSF jawans conducted a joint operation on the outskirts of North Chhimluang village on the National Highway-306 in Kolasib district in northern Mizoram bordering Assam, acting on a tip, and recovered 12.8 kgs of Methamphetamine tablets from the possession of the two peddlers, he said.

He identified the two suspects as Shamir Deb (49), a native of Silchar in Assam's Cachar district, and Solomon Zonunmawia (35) of Myanmar's Khawmawi village. He said that the illegal drugs, valued around Rs 2 crore, were transported out of Myanmar and sold outside of Mizoram.

He said that the two defendants were charged under relevant parts of the Narcotics, Drugs, and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.
