Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has invited his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao to attend the 44th FIDE International Chess Olympiad to be held in Chennai from July 28 to August 10. An official release issued by Rao's office on Friday said Stalin has also sent an invitation letter to the KCR through the DMK party's Rajya Sabha MP Girirajan. The statement said the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has already requested cm KCR to treat the invitation as a personal invitation and has been included in the inaugural event on July 28.
Rajya Sabha MP Girirajan felicitated K Chandrasekhar Rao with an invitation letter as well as a shawl and presented him with mementoes. Stalin said this is the first time that India has hosted the prestigious FIDE International Chess Olympiad. The release said that the Southern Satrap has said in the letter that chess players from 188 countries are going to take part in the championship.
Due to the Russo-Ukraine war, the hosting of the 44th Chess Olympiad has been taken away from Russia and is going to be held in Chennai. This is the second major global chess tournament after the World Championships were held in 2013 which is to be hosted by India. The All India Chess Federation has handed over a guarantee of $10 million to chess's global governing body FIDE to host the tournament.
