Chennai: M K Stalin, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, lay the foundation stone for the Rs 99 crore Kalaignar Memorial Library in Madurai on Tuesday.

On the 97th birthday of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, the Chief Minister stated that a state-of-the-art library would be built in Madurai in his honour on June 3, 2021. Accordingly, keeping words in essence,  he literally laid the foundation stone from the Secretariat here, indicating that his assurance had been fulfilled.

The government has already set aside Rs 10 crore for the acquisition of books, e-books, online periodicals, and research books, as well as Rs 5 crore for the procurement of technical equipment for the library.

Those who took part included Public Works Minister E V Velu, Commercial Taxes and Registration Minister P Murthy, Finance Minister Palanivel Thiyagarajan, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, and Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu.
