BERHAMPUR: Shibani Das, a nurse from MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, has been nominated for the National Florence Nightingale Award 2021 by the Indian Nursing Council. President Ramnath Kovind will present her with the prize shortly.

With this,  she is the first female nurse from MKCG to be nominated for this honour. Her name was chosen from a list of five nurses suggested by the hospital. It was brought to the attention of the Health Department last month. According to sources, the department sent the institute a letter on Saturday requesting that they shoot a video of Shibani before the prize event.

In 2007, she enrolled in the state-run medical institution in Berhampur's Lochapada. She formerly worked as a nurse in Kolkata. She has always gone above and beyond for her patients. She demonstrated tremendous strength while helping COVID patients throughout the epidemic, having made nursing a life commitment. She assisted patients with their beards and hygiene, which brightened the normally dreary environment of the hospital and earned her accolades.
She has finally received national recognition for her altruistic work. "I will continue to serve my patients and hope that they all leave the hospital healthy," she stated.

Premalata Barik, an Odisha healthcare worker, was one of 51 nurses honoured with the National Florence Nightingale Awards 2020 in September of last year.
