Amritsar: As the time for assembly elections approaches in Punjab, the Congress' woes seem to be increasing rather than easing. So far there was talk of a clash between Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu in the state. But now the matter has gone up to Harish Rawat. Harish Rawat, who was appointed in charge of Punjab by the Congress high command, has now turned against the Navjot faction.
Congress MLA and Navjot Singh Sidhu's close aide Pargat Singh have taken Harish Rawat to task and questioned him. In fact, Harish Rawat had said that 'in 2022, the Congress party would contest in Punjab under the leadership of Amarinder Singh. They are being surrounded by it.' Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu had said during an event on Thursday that he would brick by brick if he did not get a free hand to take decisions. Sidhu's statement was seen as a revolt against Congress's high command. But now Pargat Singh said, 'I think Sidhu's statement was against Harish Rawat and not the party high command.'
Pargat Singh further said that the Kharge panel had made it clear that the 2022 assembly elections in Punjab would be contested under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. He said, 'Harish Rawat should tell when the decision was taken. When the panel said that the party will fight under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, then what is the need for Captain Amarinder Singh's leadership.'
