In connection with toll plaza vandalism case, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray was on Saturday granted bail by Vashi court.

Thackeray appeared before the Vashi JMFC court at CBD-Belapur on Saturday. He was served a summons in an FIR registered against him at Vashi police station for allegedly provoking his party workers to vandalise toll plazas in protest against the toll collection. The incident dates back to 2014. A large banners and posters were put up at the same toll plaza ahead of Thackeray?s visit to the court. Several workers also gathered near the toll naka and the court.

The court had earlier served a bailable arrest warrant to Thackeray, but his lawyers had demanded to revoke it by claiming that Thackeray was a public figure and was not absconding. Following this, the court had cancelled the warrant and summoned him to remain present in court today.

Advocate Akshay Kashid, one of the lawyers representing Raj Thackeray, told before media, ?In 2014, Raj Thackeray had addressed a gathering at an auditorium in Vashi where he stated that if the state government does not fulfil the demand to abolish toll charges from motorists crossing Vashi toll plaza, then MNS workers should ensure that the toll charge is not collected from motorists. On the same night, MNS activists had vandalised Vashi toll plaza and the repercussions were witnessed at several other toll plazas across Maharashtra,?
