New Delhi: Make in India has a positive impact on the manufacture of mobile phone handsets in the country. India has now emerged as the largest mobile phone handset manufacturer in the world. Exports of mobile handsets increased by eight times to Rs 11,200 crore in FY 2019-20, which is more than imports. This is the first time in a year that India's mobile phone handset exports have been higher than imports.

According to the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), mobile phone handset exports during April-July in the current financial year was close to Rs 7,000 crore. It is believed that in the current financial year it will touch the figure of Rs 25,000 crore. ICEA Chief Pankaj Mohindru said that the mobile handset manufacturing industry continues to perform well. Mobile handset exports have increased by 800 percent in 2018-19 as compared to FY 2017-18.

Mobile imports were valued at Rs 10,000 crore in FY 2018-19, while exports stood at Rs 11,200 crore. This is a small, but powerful start to the golden future. It is also good for the country. ICEA informed that in the financial year 2018-19, a total of 29 crore mobile phone handsets were produced in India, which were valued at Rs 1.81 lakh crore. In fact, the government had targeted to import zero in this sector in 2014. Noida has become the hub of manufacturing mobile phone handsets in the country today.
