Guwahati: Model Rajkanya Barua had injured nine PWD workers while driving while intoxicated on the night of October 1. All the nine laborers have been admitted to GMCH. However, one laborer had broken his leg. Later the police arrested Barua. Rajkanya Barua was sent to 14-day jail custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM). The court has said in its order that he will be kept in the Guwahati Central Jail and he will not be given any VIP treatment. The state police have registered a case against him under sections 279, 294, 388 and 353 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Earlier, GNRC senior doctor Dr Navnil Barua was served a notice by the police for allegedly trying to save Rajkanya Barua by admitting her to the ICU, the doctor now claims that he was not aware of this who the model was and says he was not trying to save her. Rejecting all the allegations, the doctor said, "I didn't even know him. I was not trying to save him." Dr Navneel Barua made these statements while addressing the media at Dispur police station.

According to reports, the doctor said during police interrogation that she was threatened by Rajkanya, who said that she would end her life in the hospital if the doctor did not admit her to the ICU. The doctor said, "He messaged me on WhatsApp to admit me in the ICU." Dr Navneel Barua was later called for questioning by the Dispur Police for allegedly giving fake medical reports to Rajkanya Barua and hospitalized without any serious health problems.
