Washington: US vaccine maker Moderna has offered to sell booster doses of its corona vaccine to India since January 2022. However, talks are on with Moderna and Johnson and Johnson on the government's mid-compensation exemption. About 200 million doses of sales were also present in the interaction. These include 50 million doses from Pfizer, 70 million from Johnson & Johnson and 50 million doses from Moderna.

The talks between the government and the company point to future supply of vaccines. However, this seems to be affecting the budget of India's anti-corona shots, which is currently estimated at Rs 45,000-50,000 crore. The latest US offering that envisages about 80 million shots for India will also be helpful if it is delivered soon, as domestic production is expected to grow steadily from August.

First supply of dose to External Affairs Ministry awaited: State Department spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said he is still waiting for how many vaccines have been donated by the US in the first instalment of 25 million. US officials had said the dose sat in Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson. India will get more strength in fighting corona after its supply.

He said Bharat Biotech has sought an emergency use list from WHO for Covaxin. As Sputnik V Russian vaccine maker has done. Asked if Indians who had been vaccinated against Covaxin were facing hurdles abroad, the spokesperson said the department was "working to protect the interests of Indians abroad." He is constantly raising this issue with the concerned Governments.

What is the meaning of vaccine compensation exemption: It has been revealed that vaccine compensation exemption means that the company will not have to pay any damages if the vaccine has side effects. The Pfizer vaccine is also likely to arrive in the country next month. Pfizer had sought exemption from the Indian Government in the compensation rules for which the government has also agreed. Pfizer has indicated that 5crore vaccines will be made available this year. Us company Pfizer had said it was ready to provide 50 million vaccines in 2021 itself, but wanted exemptions from certain conditions, including compensation. Pfizer India is set to have its fourth vaccine. Earlier, the people of India are being given covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik vaccine of Russia.
