New Delhi: There is great good news for those who dream of becoming doctors in the future. Centre is ready to open 75 new medical colleges in the country. The Modi government took the decision at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The Union Cabinet has approved a proposal to open 75 new medical colleges where the facility is not available at present.

The proposal was approved at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi. He said, all these medical colleges will be opened at places where there is no medical college already and the districts are lagging behind in development.

The implementation of the proposal will cost Rs.24,375 crore and these colleges will be set up by 2021-22. Giving details on the matter, Prakash Javadekar said that the scheme of new medical colleges (58+24+75) will create at least 15,700 new MBBS seats in the country. In the past five years, 45 thousand seats of PG and MBBS have been added and 82 medical colleges were sanctioned during the period.

The Information and Broadcasting Minister said "it will benefit millions of poor and rural people and increase the availability of doctors in rural and rural areas." Union Minister Javadekar stressed that this is a great expansion in medical education in any country in the world.

He described it as an important achievement of the Modi government. He said new medical colleges will be set up in at least 200 bedded district hospitals in the deprived areas. On the other hand, 300 bedded district hospitals in aspiring districts will be given priority.
