New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the export of Aakash missile system. It has also been decided to set up a committee to make exports faster. This will help the country to improve its defence products and make it globally competitive.

According to a Defense Ministry release, India is increasing its capabilities in manufacturing various types of defence equipment and missiles under self-reliant India. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh wrote in a tweet, 'Aakash is an important missile of the country and it is 96% indigenous in nature. Aakash is a surface-to-air missile and has a capacity of 25 km.' He said that Aakash's export format would be different from the system currently deployed with the Indian Armed Forces.

The Defense Minister further said that the proposal for export of Aakash missile system was approved in the cabinet meeting under the leadership of PM Modi and along with it, it was decided to constitute a committee to make exports faster. The Aakash missile was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 2014 and the Indian Army in 2015.
