New Delhi: A number of senior officers will be posted in the newly created Department of Military Affairs led by Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat. News agency ANI citing government sources said that this department will have 2 Joint Secretaries, 13 Deputy Secretaries and 22 Under Secretaries.

Earlier last week, General Bipin Rawat met with the Chief of the three armies on Thursday, a day after taking over as the country's first CDS. During this time he asked to prepare a proposal to establish Air Defense Command for all the three armies. During the meeting, he also set a time period for the proposal. The Ministry of Defense stated, "The time period of this proposal is June 30, 2020."

So far, there is only one air defense command between the three services. General Rawat's first priority is to set up an Air Defense Command to secure India from any air attack. The Indian Airforce plays a major role in air defense, but the Indian Army has its own field air defense system. The Indian Navy has the most advanced and dynamic air defense system. Rawat has set priorities for synergy by June 30 and December 31, 2020.
