New Delhi: The Modi government at the centre is now planning to crack down on bureaucracy. The Modi government is going to act tough on government employees facing criminal or corruption cases. All such employees are under the scrutiny of the Modi administration, which is in the process of pulling out the bad elements from the bureaucracy as part of efforts to ensure high integrity and standards.

Soon after the Modi government took office for a second term since June this year, at least 64 employees, including commissioner-rank officials, have been compulsorily retired by the Central Board of Direct Taxes on various charges including corruption. Officials said such action is expected to take place in the future as the Modi government is reviewing annual confidential reports and other details of its employees, particularly those facing criminal or corruption cases.

The Center has asked all cadre controlling officers to put in place a system to identify such people and to retire them after thoroughly scrutinizing their work records. A senior official said that the Center has written to the states to prepare a list of officers who are facing allegations of misconduct or corruption. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions for the Personnel Control Officer, IAS officers is also preparing a list of tainted officers for removal from service in a phased manner.
