Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati on Wednesday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a day after he said that he was the CM of Gujarat for more than the combined terms of Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav.

Addressing the press, Mayawati said she had indeed been a CM for a shorter term compared to the PM but added that her legacy was not ‘stained’ like former Gujarat CM Narendra Modi. She pointed out that Uttar Pradesh did not witness any riots during her tenure.

“PM Narendra Modi was indeed the Chief Minister of Gujarat for a longer time than I was the CM of Uttar Pradesh. But his legacy is a black stain on the BJP and the country's secularism... While in our government, Uttar Pradesh was free of riots and anarchy,” Mayawati said.

She even slammed the PM for calling her corrupt. “The PM doesn't hesitate from calling BSP, 'Behenji ki Sampatti Party'. Whatever the national president of BSP has, it has been given by well-wishers and the society, and nothing is hidden from the government,” she stated.

On Tuesday, Mayawati had dubbed the Modi government as a sinking ship, which was also being deserted by its ideologue, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

“Narendra Modi government boat is sinking, and everyone knows this,” she said at a press conference.

"The country has already seen a number of leaders in the form of sevak (servant), mukhya Sevak (chief servant), chaiwala (tea vendor) and chowkidar (watchman), who indulge in misleading the people. But the country now needs a real prime minister who can run it in accordance with the spirit of welfare in the Constitution. The public has already been fooled by people of a dual character, and will not be fooled anymore," she told reporters.
