To know that the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had introduced triple talaq bill during its last tenure, the bill remained pending in the Rajya Sabha despite getting the nod in the Lok Sabha. This bill was also scrapped as the 16th Lok Sabha term ended last month.

With this, if the Union cabinet on Wednesday approves the newly introduced triple talaq bill, it will be first introduced in the first session of the 17th Lok Sabha beginning on June 17. The last time the government did not have a sufficient majority in the Rajya Sabha, the opposition was able to prevent the bill. This time the bill will have all eyes on the stand of the Rajya Sabha.
