New Delhi: The Modi government at the Centre has amended the pension rules of civil servants. It prohibits retired officers of the Security and Intelligence Organization from publishing anything related to their organization without the approval of the organization head. But VP Malik, a former army chief who led the army during the Kargil war, says it is harmful for the country.

According to media reports, VP Malik has said that, 'The basic problem is not the pension rule, but that it will prevent people from writing. Pensions are just a threat, the key issue is whether someone should be able to write about their experience or not. My concern is that if you are not allowing people retiring from service to share their experience, no one will be able to pass expert comments and analyze a particular event and learn from those events".

On the other hand, a former IB official has said that the new pension rules empower the government to punish someone whose views he does not like. A former RAW chief said, 'Why do you want to endanger my pension? I am happily leading a retired life", said a senior government official, "In no way do these rules forbid any former officer to express his views. In fact, it makes it easier".
