Rome: Modi's meeting with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in Rome: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Mario Draghi met for the first time in person to discuss the challenges posed by climate change and the need for international cooperation, as well as the situation in Afghanistan.

During the meeting on Friday, Modi emphasised India's transformative climate actions as well as developing countries' concerns about the developed world's climate financing commitments. The two leaders also discussed recent global and regional events, such as those in Afghanistan and the Indo-Pacific region.

"They reiterated their desire to work closer together to advance India-EU multifaceted cooperation," the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi said in a statement.

On the bilateral front, the two leaders reviewed developments since the India-Italy Virtual Summit in November 2020, expressing satisfaction with progress in implementing the 2020-2025 Action Plan, which set strategic goals in the political, economic, science and technology, and cultural spheres to be achieved in the next five years and was adopted at the virtual summit.

The two Prime Ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding trade and investment ties between their countries, particularly in the textile, food processing, automotive, and renewable energy sectors. During the meeting, India and Italy signed a Statement of Intent on Textile Cooperation, according to a press release.
