Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to engage with the Indian diaspora in New York on September 22, 2024, at the "Modi & US: Progress Together" event. The event, organized by the Indo-American Community of USA (IACU), has seen an overwhelming response with 24,000 registrations. However, the event will be held at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, which accommodates 15,000 people.

In addition to this community event, Modi is scheduled to speak at the high-level United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session on September 26. This visit to the United States comes just weeks before the November presidential elections, which will feature a contest between Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, the first woman of Black and Indian descent to run for the presidency.

Indian Americans from across 42 states are expected to attend the event, with notable participation anticipated from the tri-state area. Organizers are working to maximize attendance by expanding seating arrangements and coordinating with Welcome Partners to prioritize those who confirm their presence.

This visit marks a decade since Modi's last major community address at Madison Square Garden in September 2014, shortly after he took office and attended the UN General Assembly. In 2019, Modi spoke at the "Howdy Modi" event in Houston, Texas, alongside former President Trump.

The UNGA's 79th session will be held from September 24-30. According to a provisional schedule, Modi will address the assembly on the afternoon of September 26. The schedule is subject to updates as the UN finalizes speaking slots and attendance.

Modi, who began his third term as Prime Minister in June 2024, last addressed the UNGA in September 2021. He also led a Yoga Day celebration at the UN headquarters on June 21, 2023, before his State Visit to Washington, D.C., hosted by President Joe Biden.

Prior to the General Debate, UN Secretary-General António Guterres will present his report, and the President of the 79th session of the General Assembly will give an address. The high-level week will include the Summit of the Future, scheduled for September 22-23, where world leaders will adopt the Pact for the Future, including a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations.
