New Delhi: One negative point has been added to England’s all-rounder Moeen Ali’s Profile during the ongoing Ashes test against Australia on Saturday. It was the first time in the last 2 years Moeen Ali faced such allegation. The incident occurred during the 89th over of Australia’s first innings at Edgbaston when Moeen was seen applying a drying agent to his bowling hand for the purpose of drying it at the boundary line while fielding which he admitted as an offence and accepted the sanction proposed by the Match Referee Andy Pycroft.

Andy said there was no further hearing on the matter as Moeen admitted himself onfield. On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Marais Erasmus, third umpire Chris Gaffaney and fourth umpire Mike Burns leveled the charge.

Moeen had breached Level 1 ICC code of conduct which led him deduction of 25% match fee as fine. Level 1 breaching involves a maximum deduction of 50% of match fees and one or two demerit points.

 It was later proven that Moeen used drying agent only on fingers and there was no intention of ball tempering. The drying agent was not used on the ball as the condition was not changed which would have breached clause 41.3 of ICC playing Conditions rule book at all said the panelist of match referees.
