Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor won the Sahitya Academy Award 2019 for his non-fiction book An Era of Darkness: The British Empire in India and the Malayalam film industry's biggest stars were quick to congratulate. Mammootty put a picture with Tharoor and said congratulations. Mohanlal wrote, "Heartiest congratulations to Dr. Shashi Tharoor on winning the Sahitya Academy Award 2019. Best wishes!"

Mohanlal and Mammootty, the biggest stars of Mollywood, have been entertained on the silver screen for years and their popularity has also placed them in the list of highest-grossing celebrities. According to the list of an international magazine, Mohanlal has managed to defeat Mammootty and emerged as the highest-grossing Mollywood celebrity of 2019. Attention is being given to parameters like earning, fame and social media.

Mohanlal is the highest-grossing actor of Malayalam cinema who has been ranked 27th on the list with a gross of Rs 64.5 crore. He was not part of the list last year, but managed to get the top position. On the other hand, Mammootty has fallen from his 49th position to 62nd position in 2019 with an income of Rs 33.5. On the work front, Mohanlal will next appear in 'Big Brother' and 'Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Singham'. The actor has also signed up for Jethu Joseph's next title 'Ram'. Meanwhile, Mammootty starrer 'Mamangam' hit the screens on December 12. The Magnum Opus is running successfully in theaters. Mammootty will next appear in 'Shylock'.
