NEW DELHI: ED grilled Faisal Patel, son of senior Congress leader and Sonia Gandhi's political advisor Ahmed Patel in Sterling Biotech case. His statement is being recorded by ED under the provisions of the Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Earlier, Ahmed Patel's son-in-law Irfan Siddiqui was questioned. The two have been charged with money laundering in the Sterling biotech scam. This is the third time that ED has questioned Faisal Patel.

Last month, ED questioned Ahmed Patel's son-in-law Irfan Siddiqui in the same case. Siddiqui's statement was registered under the Money Laundering Act after the ED office reported his alleged links with the owners and promoters of the Vadodara-based company. Lawyer Irfan Siddiqui is married to Ahmed Patel's daughter Mumtaz Patel.

Ahmed Patel is the Rajya Sabha MP of the Congress from Gujarat. He was also the political secretary to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. In fact, in June, the Enforcement Directorate had seized more than 9,000 crore properties in the Sterling Biotech fraud case. Sterling Biotech is a pharmaceutical company in Gujarat. The company has been charged with fraud of Rs 14,500 crore.

The CBI had registered a fraud case of Rs 5383 crore against Sterling Biotech's company director Nitin Sandesra, Chetan Sandesra and Deepti Sandesra in October 2017. On the basis of this, the ED had also registered a case.
