Moradabad: A double-decker bus overturned on the Delhi-Lucknow National Highway at Murdhapande in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh, the country's largest state, late on Tuesday night. 19 persons were injured in the accident. About 100 people were on board the bus. The injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The condition of 10 of the injured is stated to be critical.
Police also said that the bus was on its way from Sitapur to Panipat in Haryana. All these people are said to be laborers. The bus had overtaken Rampur and reached the Murdhapande area when it hit the divider uncontrollably. After the collision, the bus overturned in a 20 feet deep pit on the roadside.
At the same time, the bus is said to have broken into a crash guard on the roadside and overturned. The bus driver is said to have fled since the accident. Passengers injured in the accident said that the bus was stopped at Dhaba just before the accident. It was here that the other driver sat down to drive the bus and had some intoxication before driving the bus. The entire matter is being investigated by the same police.
