For the last two weeks, more than 2,000 people from Myanmar's Chin state have entered Mizoram. They've made their way into the Northeastern states' border villages. Four people with shrapnel wounds were among those who came to Mizoram in the last two weeks.

The four people were taken to a private hospital in Aizawl, where one of them died due to injuries. His body had to be returned to Myanmar across the border. Chin state in Myanmar has been in the forefront of armed opposition to the junta since the military seized over the country in February 2021, and has so borne the brunt of the Myanmar army's anger.

During a confrontation between a pro-democracy civilian resistance organisation called the Chin Defence Force (CDF) and the Chin National Army in July-August last year, at least 15,000 civilians from Chin state crossed into Mizoram. At Chin state, Mizoram shares a 510-kilometre border with Myanmar, and people of similar ethnicities live on both sides of the border.
