The new corona variant identified in the last week of November has added to the uneasiness and fear all over the world. However, according to WHO, omicron variants spread to more than 47 countries have not seen death cases anywhere so far. However, the rapidly increasing infection has led to a flood of infected people in hospitals in many European countries, including the US and South Africa. Its community spread in the US-Europe is growing even faster.

Scientists in South Africa and other countries are working to find out if omicron is caused by a more serious disease and is more resistant to existing vaccines. Doctors and experts in South Africa are assuring according to early trends that the infection is very mild.

South Africa surges sharply: South Africa has seen a 700% jump in total infection cases last week. Last week, 2300 cases were reported on Monday, while 16,000 cases were reported on Friday. Although the number of omicron infected is not certain, more than 70 per cent of the cases are reported to be of Omicron.
